Humidifiers and dehumidifiers - what is the impact on mould in your environment?

May 21, 2016

Humidifiers add moisture to the air and dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air. How do each impact mould in your environment?

Humidifiers add moisture to the indoor environment making the environment more suitable for mould growth as mould thrives in increased moisture and humidity. This often leads to infections and respiratory problems if the mould growth is not treated.

Dehumidifiers remove moisture, but do not kill or remove germs, they just provide a means to discourage their growth. Mould for example becomes dormant, waiting for moisture conditions to be right again to start growing. That is why many people who use dehumidifiers or moisture removing products still find mould affects the treated areas.

In either situation SAN-AIR can be used as a complimentary product to eliminate mould and bacteria build up:

  • If you are using a humidifier, SAN-AIR will evaporate into the air and come into contact with moud and bacteria stopping it from reproducing and growing.
  • If you are using a dehumidifier,  SAN-AIR will take care of any mould and fungal spores left behind so they will not germinate into large masses of mould.
